Day Two

So my parents officially said goodbye in the morning. Don’t remember ever seeing my dad cry before. It was really… offsetting. Since I wasn’t as sad. I knew I’d see them again. Met some more people. It’s… odd. I feel like I’m going to use odd and weird a lot. I don’t have the urge to sit around alone as much (except for like 10pm+ when I’m going to go to bed around midnight). I usually find myself walking around, hanging with some people of the people I met, or just trying to find somebody approachable whenever I have free time. Today we did our official welcome thing where we walked to the alumni lawn as they call it and got like an hour of speeches. We had to walk there, a walk that took about two or three times longer than it should, in the blazing hot sun and sit there for what felt forever before a cloud covered up the sun. Speeches as I said, took about an hour and then we all rushed back. I had to buy a collared shirt because we had to dress nice and I only had long sleeve ones and like hell I’m wearing long sleeves in a Nashville August day. There was a picnic after the welcome. They had burgers and hot dogs and stuff. Got me a burger and brownie. Oh my god best food ever. Hyperbole yes, but it was still pretty damn good. Waiting for our last floor meeting, I decided to go out and call my parents. Side note. It seems like there are plenty of bugs in the day and like none at night. I think that’s when it started to really hit me that they were gone. They asked how I was doing and stuff, mom was worried about me eating enough of course. I asked if they were still driving and they said they got home like half an hour ago. At that point I felt my eyes watering up. I hope I’m not going to want to cry every time I call. Floor meeting was shorter than last time. I managed to shower and brush my teeth and stuff and it was only 10:30 while it would have been almost midnight last time. Some of the other guys for whatever reason still want to go out and play. Makes me feel a bit more responsible.

EDIT: Also, pro-tip. If you wear shoes of a similar style to converse, don’t. Especially if you walk a lot. Wear running shoes. MUCH more comfortable. I learned the hard way, which involves a blister.
